### Year 7-10 Mathematics

## Year 7

Year 7 Mathematics is the bedrock to your child’s mathematics learning throughout High School. In Year 7, your child will learn the fundamentals of algebraic notation and mathematical concepts and terminology that will underpin their High School maths learning.

## Year 8

Year 8 Mathematics will determine the level of maths that they can be taught in years 9 and 10, which will influence their choice of maths for the HSC. Your child in Year 8 will consolidate the underlying principles of High School Mathematics with a focus on utilising approach mathematical terminology and techniques to answer a variety of complex maths problems and issues.

## Year 9

Year 9 Mathematics begins the preparation of your child for advanced maths study in Years 11 and 12. Year 9 will introduce your child to deductive reasoning and how to interpret and connect different ideas across different strands and types of mathematics.

## Year 10

Year 10 Mathematics is a key juncture in your child’s mathematical education before they commence HSC Mathematics courses. In Year 10, Reach Academy will develop their understanding and application of mathematical concepts to analyse and solve complex problems to ensure they are well-prepared for the topics that they will encounter in their study of mathematics in Years 11 and 12.

### HSC Year 11-12 Mathematics

## Year 11-12 Maths Standard

Mathematics Standard focuses on using mathematical skills and techniques to solve real-life and contextual maths problems. Mathematics Standard gives the opportunity for those with developing and budding mathematical ability to contribute positively to their ATAR, and entrance to university. In Mathematics Standard, your child will develop their algebraic and graphical skills to answer and provide evidence-based conclusions to every-day maths problems.

## Year 11-12 Maths Advanced (2U)

Mathematics Advanced is the underlying subject that your child must achieve great marks in for them to study and perform well in Extension 1 and Extension 2 Mathematics. On its own, Mathematics Advanced is crucial as it is a pre-requisite for a variety of university courses. A strong focus on calculus permeates throughout Years 11 and 12, and your child will utilise complex mathematical techniques in order to answer the problems they encounter during their studies and the HSC.
